Warzone 1, also known as Warzone Caldera, will be shutting down this September, as announced by Activision earlier this year. This means that fans of the original Warzone will have to bid farewell to the game. However, there’s still plenty to look forward to in the world of Call of Duty, as Sledgehammer Games is preparing for the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III in November.
When Is Warzone 1 Shutting Down?
Activision has confirmed that the servers for Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera will be shut down on Thursday, September 21st. The exact time has yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to happen at 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 6PM BST, which is the usual time for new events, updates, playlist changes, and more.
Why Is Warzone 1 Shutting Down?
According to Activision, Warzone Caldera is being taken offline in order for the relevant studios to focus on future Call of Duty content, including the current Warzone free-to-play experience. However, players don’t have to worry about losing their purchased content. All weapon bundles, skins, and cosmetic items bought for Warzone Caldera will still be available to use in legacy titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard.
Even though Warzone Caldera is shutting down, players can still enjoy the current version of Call of Duty: Warzone for free on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
