PlayStation 5 Pro Rumors
Before we get into the main topics, let’s quickly touch on the rumors surrounding the PlayStation 5 Pro. While most hardware leaks are often wishful thinking, the rumored Viola APU for the PS5 Pro seems credible. With a possible 60 compute units, slightly more than Xbox Series X, it could be an affordable option. The move to a 5nm production process would also allow for higher clock speeds. This could result in a GPU compute of around 18.6TF, especially with the dual-issue functionality of RDNA 3. However, it’s important to note that real-world gaming performance may be limited.
Switch 2 Fake Leaks
Last week, a questionable leak surfaced claiming to reveal the Switch 2. While the leak lacked imagination and featured an unconvincing user interface, it did raise some interesting points. We can be fairly confident that the Switch 2 will be powered by a new Nvidia SoC, potentially the T239. This new chip could feature eight ARM A78 CPU cores, a 128-bit memory interface, and an Ampere-class GPU with CUDA core counts in the 1536-2048 range. Addition custom features like DLSS2 and RT support are also expected. However, the power requirements for ray tracing may limit its utilization.
The Future of Nintendo Switch
When it comes to the Switch 2, the real question is how Nintendo will further innovate the concept. It’s unlikely that they will stray from the idea of a single system for both mobile and docked play. However, Nintendo is known for its innovative ideas, which may pose a challenge when trying to build upon an existing concept. Additionally, backwards compatibility will be crucial for the new Switch, allowing players to carry their digital catalogues forward. While there may be some technical difficulties, Nvidia’s engineering skills and software expertise give us hope for a successful solution.
