Fortnite Introduces New Safety Features
Fortnite has recently introduced two new features aimed at improving community safety, namely Voice Reporting and Age Restrictions for user-created islands. These features are designed to enhance the overall gaming experience and create a safer environment for players.
Voice Reporting Feature
The voice reporting feature allows users to submit audio evidence when reporting other users who are violating the game’s rules. By default, the feature records five minutes of audio on a rolling basis, with only the last five minutes being attachable to a report. Epic Games has emphasized that they have no way of accessing any voice chat audio unless voice reporting is activated and a participant submits a voice report.
Age Ratings and Restrictions
In addition to the voice reporting feature, Epic Games has announced the implementation of age ratings and restrictions for Fortnite. These ratings are based on a user’s regional authority, providing information about problematic features of the game and its target audience. This is intended to help parents and players make informed decisions about the games and experiences within Fortnite. Some in-game cosmetics are also subject to age restrictions, preventing their use on certain islands based on their ratings.
However, the introduction of age ratings has raised concerns among some players, particularly regarding the usability of certain skins that they have purchased. Epic Games has assured the community that they will work to make most outfits compatible with all age ratings over time by implementing auto-adjustments based on the island being played on.
