Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) soon to depart from Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass subscribers have recently been informed that Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) is set to leave the gaming service in the near future. Both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game have been moved to the Leaving Soon section on the official Xbox Game Pass website, indicating that their removal is imminent.
An exact departure date has not been specified, but the website typically removes games from this section within two weeks of their listing. The entry date of GTA V into this section has not been disclosed, suggesting that users may have only a short window left to enjoy the game.
Subscription Benefits and Caveats
Subscribers of the Xbox Game Pass have access to a wide selection of over 100 titles without the need for additional individual purchases. This allows users to play these games freely as part of their subscription. However, the drawback is the temporary nature of these titles within the Game Pass library. Once a game is removed from the service, even active subscribers lose access to it.
Differentiating Departure from the Service vs. Platform
It is important to note the distinction between GTA V leaving the Xbox Game Pass section and departing from the entire Xbox platform. While the game will no longer be part of the subscription service, interested players can still purchase GTA V through the Xbox store for permanent access in their personal libraries, unless it is completely removed from the platform in the future.
Implications and Urgency
This move highlights the transient nature of games within subscription-based services like Xbox Game Pass, urging users to act swiftly if they wish to continue playing GTA V without interruptions. In the words of the Xbox Game Pass announcement, “While GTA V will be leaving the Game Pass soon, players can choose to purchase the game from the Xbox store to ensure uninterrupted gameplay in their personal collection.”
